Here's what people are saying
about The Cat and the Canvas...

"The Cat and the Canvas might well have been called Abby’s Amazing Odyssey. This is an exotic tale of a 12-year-old girl and her unique companions as they pursue adventure in a parallel universe. It is as fun and fascinating as Alice’s adventures down the rabbit’s hole, the exploits of Ratty , Moley, and Toadly among the willows, the rambles of Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer along the river, or the Emerald City intrigue of Dorothy and Toto and company.

"As an adult who finds a good deal of entertainment and wisdom in so-called “juvenile” fiction, I found Deborah Mercier’s book to be a delightful read, a memorable adventure, and a promise of lovely things to come from this unique and original teller of tales.

"The yarn begins rather slowly, and lays down some difficult back-story, the importance of which will become apparent later on. But after a couple dozen pages the story takes a turn which was is as transforming as the point in the classic Wizard of Oz movie where the picture goes from black and white to Technicolor. From that point on it is difficult to put the book down, so well was this tale told.

"Deb Mercier creates scenes and characters as timeless and magical as Peter Pan, the Tin Man, and the Wicked Witch of the West. No doubt there are more good tales to come from this charming storyteller."
~ Mikko Cowdery, singer/songwriter/storyteller

"I love the book!!!! I usually don't like to read but this book was REALLY hard to put down. Hey whoever reads this and says, 'oh it's probably not a good book' well you're REALLY REALLY WRONG!!! It's Great, Awesome, Fantastic!!!"
~ Katie, age 13

"I had high expectations and was not disappointed. At first I thought I had you figured out – ah! A Lewis Carroll and a C.S.Lewis-fanfiction! But no! You came through with flying colors. Of course you are in debt to the afore mentioned, especially CSL, but you can stand on your own two feet. Every time I thought I had figured out the ending You surprised me. Of course the ending ending was rather predictable but that could be said of many of the endings of your great predecessors. Now I am really looking forward to Your next book. Keep it coming!"
~ Bent from Norway

"I loved your book! There was never a dull moment and keeps imaginations going. My favorite parts were the times the main characters escaped, and the way they did it. It's cool how you gave something of ordinary use a magical power and made me think of necklaces a little different in the end. Thanks for a great read!."
~ Elise, age 15

"The book kept me up until the wee hours-- not a common occurrence for a busy (and sick) dad. That turned out to be about 3 hours of reading. In other words, I devoured it the way I do a bowl of ice cream-- fast and messy. But it was much better than ice cream, which only keeps me entertained for a few minutes. I'm still enjoying scenes from the book."
~ Tim from Silver Spring, MD

"I love your book! I was happy, sad, and excited. This book shows you a new world full of creatures good and bad. A simple tattoo that gets you into a different world. You don't need pictures, the book describes it like you're looking at a picture. This book creates imagination in any reader old or young. P.S. - I can't wait for your next book!"
~ Leah, age 12
